Freqently asked questions
What Can I Do as a Volunteer?
During the festival, volunteers staff the festival information desk. This is often the audience’s first point of contact with the festival, where festival passes are distributed. Invited guests, such as directors, producers, actors, and other industry professionals, also receive their festival T-shirts, meal vouchers, and similar items at the information desk.Volunteers at the desk are also expected to answer questions from attendees about the programme, help them find screening venues and facilities, and even point them towards the best burger in town. In short, you are the public face of the festival and play a key role in creating a welcoming experience for our audience.
Before each screening, volunteers check tickets, count audience members, and help attendees find the correct film and screening venue. For special events, such as outdoor screenings or pool screenings, volunteers assist with a variety of tasks, including setting up and moving chairs, distributing refreshments, and providing general support to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Volunteers also take part in setting up the festival (on the Monday or Tuesday before the festival) and helping with the teardown (on Sunday and, if necessary, the Monday after the festival). The festival itself runs from Wednesday afternoon through to Sunday afternoon.
What We Expect from Our Volunteers
We expect you to arrive on time for your assigned shifts, contribute to the best of your ability, and familiarize yourself with any information relevant to your role. We also expect our volunteers to be friendly, approachable, and service-minded when interacting with festival audiences, guests, and fellow volunteers. You do not need any prior knowledge of film or filmmaking, but we do ask that you take some time to familiarize yourself with the festival programme.
By joining us as a volunteer, you commit to contributing approximately 20 hours, primarily during the festival itself. Some setup and teardown duties may also take place outside the five days of the festival, including preparations before the festival begins and wrap-up work afterwards.
What Are the Benefits of Volunteering?
First and foremost, you will have the opportunity to help create Norway’s scariest film festival! As a volunteer, you will meet a wide range of interesting people, gain valuable work experience, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how a film festival is organized and run.
All volunteers receive a festival pass, giving you access to all regular film screenings and festival events throughout the festival.
The day before the festival, all approved volunteers are invited to an information meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator. During this session, they will receive the necessary training and information, as well as their official festival T-shirt.
Please note: You must be at least 15 years old on the first day of the festival to volunteer at Ramaskrik Film Festival.
