Feature Film Lineup Ready
40 horror films in 5 days! The Ramaskrik feature film programme is now complete, and it proves that 2026 is an outstanding year for horror cinema.
It has taken us nearly a year to find the films and secure them for screening at the Ramaskrik Film Festival in Oppdal, October 14–18. Our nine-member programming committee has watched more than 200 films from around the world and selected what we believe is an exceptionally strong and exciting line-up, ranging from undiscovered gems to highly anticipated titles receiving their Norwegian premieres at Ramaskrik.
We can't wait to welcome you all in just a few weeks' time.
Welcome to the Ramaskrik Film Festival, October 14–18!

Whalefall Opens Ramaskrik
This year’s opening film will have its first and exclusive screening in Norway at the Ramaskrik Film Festival.
Get ready for an intense cinema experience. Imagine being on a solo dive, only to be swallowed by a whale, together with an angry squid. Whalefall is based on Daniel Kraus’ novel from 2023 of the same name. It’s a kind of chamber piece, but set inside a chamber few of us know particularly well, with a soundscape that make Whalefall a truly sweaty experience.
If you haven’t read the book, we won’t spoil what happens, except to say that it involves a tricky situation, very little oxygen, entrails, and plenty of drama. This one really has to be seen on the big screen!
Whalefall is our official opening film and will be screened on Wednesday evening at 8:15 PM. This will be its one and only exclusive screening at the festival.
FYI: The first films of the festival start as early as 4:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14. The full programme schedule will be published on September 23 or 24.

Ben Wheatley to Ramaskrik Film Festival
Director Ben Wheatley will be attending the Ramaskrik Film Festival this October. Ramaskrik will screen his new roadshow-distributed film Bulk as well as the modern classic Kill List from 2011.
Ben Wheatley is an award-winning and critically acclaimed director, screenwriter, editor, and producer with deep roots in genre cinema. Ramaskrik has followed Wheatley's career since Kill List was screened as part of the Ramaskrik section at the Kosmorama Film Festival in 2012. We later screened both ABCs of Death in Oppdal in 2012, Sightseers in 2013, and most recently In the Earth in 2021.
“We have followed Wheatley throughout the years and have always looked forward to his next film to see what he comes up with. We know it will be genre cinema, that it will hover somewhere on the edge of horror, and that it will have a style entirely its own,” says Festival Director Morten Haagensen.
His filmography spans an impressive range of genres, from the more distinctive works Down Terrace, A Field in England, and High-Rise to more commercial productions such as Free Fire, Rebecca and Meg 2: The Trench.
At this year’s Ramaskrik, October 14th – 18th, audiences will experience the full breadth of Wheatley’s work, from his breakthrough film Kill List, a harrowing and realistic folk horror classic, to the highly playful, entertaining, and experimental sci-fi action film Bulk (2025).
Bulk has been released theatrically in the United Kingdom through a travelling roadshow, with Ben Wheatley and producer Andy Starke appearing in person. Now Ramaskrik becomes another stop on “The Never Ending Bulk Tour” in Oppdal, with Wheatley attending the festival. This is something to look forward to.

First wave of movies at Ramaskrik
Spiders, vertigo, Norwegian cult films, anniversaries, Spanish horror, and much more. The first 15 films in this year's Ramaskrik programme have been announced. And this is not even half of the programme, which will continue to be filled with films and guests right up until mid-September.
A year of horror movie watching by our fantastic programming committee is drawing to a close. We are continuously lifting the lid on our horror film cauldron, and it tastes very good this year, as always.
Crawlers, Fall 2 and Friday The 69th
One of the most intense trailers we have seen lately is the spider horror film Crawlers, and it is sure to make audiences itch at Ramaskrik. The same goes for the sequel to the 2022 acrophobia thriller Fall. We promise a dizzying ride in Fall 2: Deadpoint. Friday The 69th is an ultra-low-budget B-movie horror tribute, shot entirely on an iPhone and partly in the same house where The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was filmed. Expect bloodshed, great fun, and an exceptional amount of silliness!
Gaua and They Always Come at Night
Spain is a country with an enormous horror film scene and countless festivals. This year, we have several Spanish films in the program, starting with Gaua (The Night). If you are interested in folklore, history, witchcraft, and sorcery, this is the film for you! They Always Come at Night radiates slow-burning Gothic melancholy and mystery. And there is more Spanish horror to come, we promise.
Cold Prey anniversary celebration
This year's major Norwegian anniversary celebration is none other than Cold Prey from 2006. Roar Uthaug's classic mountain slasher will be screened, dissected, and celebrated at Ramaskrik. Uthaug will be attending, as will lead actress Ingrid Bolsø Berdal.
Norwegian cult movies
Speaking of Norwegian film, the podcast Norsk kultfilm will of course be visiting as well. We will screen the 1976 thriller Angst, meet Severin Eskeland, and watch his first amateur films Slakt and Slakt 2. Last but not least, there will be a live podcast episode about Cold Prey featuring Roar Uthaug and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal.
Grind and Boxcutter
In Grind, we are presented with four interconnected stories drawn from a dystopian present. Grind is a black comedy that a few years ago would have been considered dystopian fiction, but which, in today's United States, may strike many as only a slight exaggeration. Boxcutter is a painful and vicious film, in many ways a love child of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and the French New Extremity movement. After a slow build-up, the story explodes in its second act, delivering top-shelf discomfort and brutality.
The Devils
Ramaskrik brings you the first screening in Norway of The Devils from 1971. A long-awaited newly restored and uncensored version of Ken Russell's wild and controversial classic is finally ready to be seen.
Amsterdamned II, Bowels of Hell and Fifteen
Director Dick Maas still has a bloody touch and a confident visual style. Amsterdamned II picks up the thread from one of the truly great Dutch cult films and sits somewhere between sequel and reboot. Bowels of Hell marks the return of toilet horror, now a firm Ramaskrik tradition, and this year's rowdy contribution comes from Brazil. It is bloody, humorous, and above all political. Bon appétit! Fifteen is a Mexican coming-of-age body horror film with as much playful charm as blood and gore. If you enjoyed Ginger Snaps (2000) or Eighth Grade (2018), Fifteen is definitely one to catch.
Rubber
We will be leaving the cultural centre and heading to Toyota Slettum Bil for a special screening of the tire-horror film Rubber in the most fitting surroundings imaginable, right among tires and cars. Rubber was made by French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux, who is no stranger to Ramaskrik thanks to his film Smoking Causes Coughing. This event is presented in collaboration with Trondheim Film Society.

The films at Ramaskrik are presented in two short film programs selected by our programming committee and will be judged by the following jury:
Astrid Thorvaldsen is a genre-loving screenwriter and director based in Trondheim. In 2014, she attended Ramaskrik with the horror film Utburd, which she directed as part of her master's degree in film and video production at NTNU. Her short films have been screened at numerous international festivals, including Fantasia, Bucheon (BiFan), and Flickerfest.
Knut Nærum is an author, playwright, and cartoonist. He has published over thirty books across various genres, primarily crime and science fiction, with humor as a common thread. In the horror genre, he has written the novel Monster (2007), the zombie puppet show Is (2012), and the comic book Svanger (2026), illustrated by Karstein Volle. Nærum was a regular panelist on the weekly NRK satire show "Nytt på nytt" from 1999 to 2015.
Jasper Sharp is an author, critic and filmmaker known for his work on Asian cinema. He was the co-founder (with Tom Mes) of the Japanese film website Midnight Eye. His books include The Midnight Eye Guide to New Japanese Film (2004), joint-written with Mes, Behind the Pink Curtain (2008) and The Historical Dictionary of Japanese Cinema (2011). He has directed the documentaries The Creeping Garden (2014), a documentary about plasmodial slime moulds co-directed with Tim Grabham, The J-Horror Virus (2023) with Sarah Appleton, and Splatterfest Exhumed (2024).Now he will turn his attention to European short films as a member of our Méliès d’Argent jury.
For Ramaskrik, it is important to have the jury present during the festival, in the cinema, to watch the films as they are meant to be seen. Furthermore, it is a pleasure for us to host good friends of genre film who are well-qualified to evaluate the short films.

Fritt vilt-jubileet vil foregå fredagen under festivalen – 16. oktober.
Og DU er velkommen!
