Kill List
A former soldier turned hitman takes on a mysterious but lucrative assignment. He works his way through the kill list, but the jobs become increasingly brutal, eventually spiralling into a nightmarish descent into the heart of darkness.
Kill List is an unsettling and disorienting experience. Ben Wheatley plays with the audience’s expectations of genre, constantly casting doubt on the film’s own reality. The story appears to move forward in a linear fashion, but repeatedly makes small leaps in directions you could never have anticipated, leaving you with the feeling that you are completely lost. Combined with disorienting editing, a seemingly haunted score and brutally uncomfortable violence, it leaves you asking yourself: “How the hell did we get here?”

Meet the Filmmaker: Ben Wheatley
Before Saturday evening’s screening of Kill List, join us for an extended conversation with director Ben Wheatley onstage in the foyer. Over the past two decades, Wheatley has built a remarkable career in film and television, exploring a wide range of genres and styles. We’ll discuss his work as a filmmaker and may also touch on fanzines and his musical pursuits. After the discussion, we’ll head into the cinema to see Kill List, the breakthrough film that established Wheatley as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary British genre cinema.

Ben Wheatley
Ben Wheatley is an award-winning and critically acclaimed director, screenwriter, editor, and producer with deep roots in genre cinema. Ramaskrik has followed Wheatley's career since Kill List was screened as part of the Ramaskrik programe at the Kosmorama Film Festival in 2012. We later screened both Sightseers and The ABCs of Death in Oppdal in 2012, and most recently In the Earth in 2021.
His filmography spans an impressive range of genres, from the more distinctive works Down Terrace, A Field in England, and High-Rise to more commercial productions such as Free Fire, Rebecca and Meg 2: The Trench.
At this year’s Ramaskrik October 14th – 18th, audiences will experience the full breadth of Wheatley’s work, from his breakthrough film Kill List, a harrowing and realistic folk horror classic, to the highly playful, entertaining, and experimental sci-fi action film Bulk (2025).
Bulk has been released theatrically in the United Kingdom through a travelling roadshow, with Ben Wheatley and producer Andy Starke appearing in person. Now Ramaskrik becomes another stop on “The Never Ending Bulk Tour” in Oppdal, with Wheatley attending the festival. This is something to look forward to.
